Why are art programs important?
My research paper is on how art benefits a child's education. While writing my research paper I learned how art can help a student raise up their test scores and their grades overall by helping the way people think through creativity. I also learned how art can make students who don't have the same opportunities as their classmates feel like they at least have an equal playing field in art class which makes me believe that art is crucial to motivate students to continue their education and help them along the way.
" “Strong art programs in school help close gaps that have left many kids behind.” (Smith, 2009). Art programs help establish a bond with their classmates by giving them a sense of accomplishment when they complete an art piece or when they perform in a concert. As we mentioned before, it helps build confidence, concentration, motivation, and teamwork which can help kids communicate with their teachers for help when they don’t understand something in class which will help raise test scores, it will also help them make friends with their classmates having a similar interest which makes them more sociable.
Art education can benefit not only with improving a child’s test scores and concentration but with their social life as well. “A report from 2005 by the Road Corporation about visual arts argues that the pleasures and stimulation of art experience do more than just sweeten an individual's life. Art can open a new way of seeing things and connect people more deeply to the world.” ( Smith, 2009). This means that Art can show people a different way of seeing things by giving them a whole new perspective which opens a way to connect with people who can value the same things they do leading to forming a strong relationship."
This section of my research paper really stood out to me because it showed me that art can help students in ways that other subjects can't. During my club I would see how the members would communicate a lot more especially when talking about their drawings and they ended up warming up to me through art and literature.
