Dear Mrs. Boutilier,
For my capstone project, I decided to host a Creative Writing/Illustration club for anybody who is willing to join, this club will be called Scribble Society. The reason I am interested in doing this is because art has always been a part of my life as well as reading comic books. My club will be every Monday starting at 2:45 and ending at 4:30. I will be putting up flyers in the middle school section and visit them during advisory to advertise the club and to explain what will be happening in the club. Mrs.Jacocks and Mrs.Finkenstein have agreed to supervise my club. Mrs.Jacocks will only do it once a month and during that time we will be painting in her classroom, while we are with Mrs.Finkenstein the club members will be working on writing their short stories/poems or they will be learning some techniques on how to draw with me. In this club, they have the option of what the layout will be for their project. They can do a comic strip that would involve looking for an example template and to find the key points of their idea so they can draw the scenes and add the writing, they can write a poem or a short story that is accompanied by painting that was made in Mrs.Jacocks classroom. People think that comic books are a waste of time and don’t even consider them as actual books, but I believe that they are a form of literature that just gives us a better understanding of what exactly is happening and what everything looks like which in my opinion it makes it more interesting and exciting to see what happens next. I will be stepping out of my comfort zone by helping and instructing others on their forms of art.
My research question is why are art programs important? This question relates to my project because it is related to art and my club does affect the members in some way. Some artifacts would be the art canvases and the feedback I would get from the club members along with their stories/poems/comics that they will or might do.
My mentor for my capstone project is Mrs.Finkenstein, I chose her because she’s an English teacher and she can give me advice about where to go with my club and how to communicate with the club members. I also believe she can help with coming up with themes if the club members don’t have an idea about what to write. The thing that is pushing me is my goal for my future to become an art teacher. This capstone project will help me in the long run because it’s pushing me to speak up and voice my opinions to help them improve and learn from their mistakes and my from my own.
Sincerely,
Jacqueline Contreras
